Käsissäsi oleva Perinteisen Oluen Seuran julkaisema Suomen Parhaat Olutravintolat 2000 -opas on Suomen ensimmäinen täysin riippumaton oluenystäville suunnattu hyvien olutravintoloiden opas.

Oppaan tarkoitus on esitellä tiedossamme olevat, oluenystävän kriteerit täyttävät olutravintolat. Opas kattaa koko Suomen ja tiedot on käännetty myös englanniksi. Näin kaikilla oluesta kiinnostuneilla on mahdollisuus oppaan avulla tutustua oman ja myös muiden paikkakuntien parhaimpiin olutravintoloihin. Oppaassa on tiedot noin sadasta olutravintolasta ympäri Suomea, Helsingistä Saariselälle ja Joensuusta Vaasaan.

Suomen Parhaat Olutravintolat 2000 -opas on vuosia jatkuneiden haaveiden toteutuma. Suomalaiset olutravintolat listaavasta käsikirjasta on puhuttu niin kauan kuin Suomessa olutharrastusta on ollut. Perinteisen Oluen Seuran puheenjohtaja ja toinen tämän oppaan toimittajista Kari Likovuori on paikannut oppaan puutetta Internetissä julkaistuilla listoilla. Ensimmäinen versio esitteli kaikki Helsingin ja muutaman muun suuremman kaupungin Guinness-hanat noin vuosina 1991-1992, tällöin ei vielä voinut juurikaan puhua olutravintoloista. Nykyinen laajennettu Internetin Ankaran Oluenystävän Oppaan ravintolalista onkin ollut runkona tälle oppaalle.

Vuoden 1999 alussa päätettiin joulumarkkinoille saada julkaisu, jossa olisi lueteltu lähinnä pääkaupunkiseudun ja suurimpien kaupunkien pubit. Esittelyiden lukumääräksi arvioitiin 50-60 pubia. Joulu ehti mennä ja opas paisui käsittämään noin 100 pubia 38 paikkakunnalta.

Kaikki tiedot on kerätty vapaaehtoisvoimin. Suurimmassa osassa oppaan pubeista on käyty paikanpäällä. Osasta on kuitenkin käytössä vain ravintolan itsensä toimittamat tiedot. Vaikka olemmekin pyrkineet tarkastamaan tiedot, virheitä löytynee. Näistä mahdollisista epätarkkuuksista sekä niistä hyvistä olutravintoloista, jotka eivät oppaaseen ehtineet, pyytäisimme lukijaa informoimaan toimitusta seuraavaa painosta varten.

FOREWORD

This Good Pub Guide to Finland 2000, published by the Finnish Society for Traditional Beers, is the first of its kind. It is an independent guide to the best of Finnish pubs and specifically to those pubs which stock an interesting selection of beers.

The purpose of the Guide is to present a list of all the specialist beer bars of which we are aware and that meet the general criteria we have set for entry to the Guide. The Guide covers the whole of Finland and the information is given in both Finnish and English, allowing Finns and non-Finns alike to discover the pubs with the best beers in their locality and elsewhere. The Guide lists about 100 pubs, from Helsinki to Saariselkä, and from Joensuu to Vaasa.

The Good Pub Guide to Finland 2000 represents the fulfilment of an ambition that can be traced back many years, to the start of the beer renaissance in Finland in the early and mid-1990s. The absence of a published guide has been compensated for some time by a list produced on the Internet and compiled by the Society's chairman Kari Likovuori, a co-editor of this Guide. The prototype for the list, produced in about 1991-1992, showed all the bars selling Guinness in Helsinki and in several of the larger towns outside the capital. At that time, you still couldn't really talk of specialist beer bars as we know them today. Over the years the Internet list was expanded, and it contributed to the initial framework for this Guide.

At the start of 1999 the Society took the decision to produce a pub guide listing the best beer bars in the Helsinki region and the other major cities. The guide was to comprise some 50-60 pubs and the intention was to publish it in time for Christmas. However, with the Guide swelling to around 100 pubs from 38 localities across the whole country, the publication date was revised. The end product is now safely in your hands and ready for use.

All the work for the Guide has been carried out by the Society's dedicated volunteers. The majority of the Guide's pubs have been surveyed in person. For others, however, it has been necessary to use information supplied by the pub itself. Although we have made every effort to check these details, the Guide may contain some inaccuracies and some of the information will inevitably change after publication. In such cases, or if you know of other possible candidates for the next Guide, please let us so that we can make the next Guide even better.
